Cicada Place opened it’s doors in 1999 – as a first of it’s kind program in BC.

Cicada provides 10 supported housing units for youth aged 16 – 22. This offers a unique opportunity for youth to live independently within a supportive environment. Staff are available to offer support & guidance through group life skills programs, bridging to community services, connection to educational programs & more.

The Opportunity | Live-in Caretaker:

We’re seeking a reliable, responsible & self-directed individual who’s confident with a range of basic building maintenance & upkeep tasks to join our operations at Cicada.

Enjoy living rent-free in beautiful Nelson BC – A 2 bedroom, 850 square foot apartment, with separate entrance & small yard (great space for a little garden), close to downtown & within walking distance of all the local amenities is included as part of the contractor compensation package.
This unique opportunity can be a great fit for an individual, partnership, or small family.
With caretaker duties averaging 15 hours a week, there’s flexibility to hold other employment – or share the work as a partnership or roommate team.

Key Duties & Qualifications:

The Cicada live-in caretaker contract position is integral to operations – providing building upkeep, maintenance & custodial duties as well as serving as the on-site emergency contact for residents evenings, weekends & holidays. This position is focussed on building operations & does not provide direct youth work.

The successful applicant will have building maintenance/custodial experience, excellent interpersonal & communication skills, a clear criminal records check, valid BC Driver’s License & reliable vehicle.

Compensation Package:

The compensation for the live-in caretaker contract position includes a two-bedroom apartment onsite at Cicada Place. In addition, a contract fee is paid in the amount of $614.08 on the 15^th and 30^th day of every month.

The Caretaker Apartment Space:

Take in the Caretaker apartment space ~ This 2 bedroom, 850 square foot space, is located onsite at Cicada with a seperate entrace & a small yard. An underground parking space is included.

It’s centrally located in beautiful Nelson BC, steps from downtown & within walking distance of all the amenties – shopping, recreation, music, parks & more.
