Nelson Community Services is seeking a full-time Child and Youth Community Mental Health Therapist. This position is 3 days per week (21hrs). The incumbent in this position provides clinical counselling and support services to children and youth under age 19 with severe mental, emotional, and behavioural problems, and their caregivers, that seek to increase stability in the lives of children and youth that exhibit these behaviours. This permanent position starts on or about December 18, 2025.
The Role
As a Child and Youth Mental Health (CYMH) Clinician, you’ll support the mental wellness of children, youth, and families through direct clinical services such as intake, assessment, treatment, suicide risk assessment, safety planning, and crisis intervention for ages 0–19. You’ll collaborate with professionals including educators, healthcare providers, Indigenous service organizations, and community agencies to deliver wrap around care. Qualifications: Master’s degree in Counselling, Social Work, Educational Counselling, Clinical Counselling, Clinical Psychology or Child and Youth Care or comparable graduate degree at the Master’s level in a similar subject may be considered. NOTE: If your degree was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). Applicants near completion of their Master’s Degree may be considered at a lower classification.
Experience:
Minimum of one (1) years’ recent related experience providing clinical counselling to children and youth experiencing mental health issues, and their caregivers.

- Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
- Preference may be given to applicants with 2+ years of experience working with children and youth and their families, with responsibility for providing a wide range of community based mental health services.
- Preference may be given to applicants with experience in early childhood education.
- Preference may be given to applicants who self-identify as having an Indigenous heritage (First Nations, Métis, or Inuit) with the required combination of education and experience.
- May be required to work with families and children and youth who are distressed and facing challenges which may occasionally involve exposure to unpleasant situations or behaviour with angry, abusive, or abused clients; exposure to hazards from frequently working around parents and/or children in crisis who may display volatile behaviour.
- The position is entitled to annual leave, sick leave, and extended health benefits as per the Collective Agreement.
- The position requires continued Union membership with BCGEU.
- The wage is consistent with Wage Grid 16P ($44.54 to $54.52) as outlined in the Collective Agreement.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours to meet program needs – evening work may be required.
- Must hold a valid Frist Aid certificate
