JOB Posting – Sexual Assault Services Coordinator Liaison and Responder

Nelson Community Services is seeking a candidate for a temporary part time Coordination Liaison and Responder.  The incumbent in this position works closely with the SAS Coordinator to perform various promotional and social media tasks, in addition to group facilitation which support the needs of the SAS Program. Responding to incidents of sexual assault, presenting at Kootenay Lake Hospital, during set work hours and occasional on call basis is a further objective. Program services are delivered within a feminist framework and place priority on the safety of survivors.

Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in human services or related field, or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Experience:

Minimum of two (2) years’ recent experience in supporting individuals who have experienced recent sexual assault and related trauma.

Additional Skills:

  1. Experience in providing trauma informed emotional supports for survivors of sexual assault and advocacy within a feminist practice framework.
  2. Competent in working with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and lifestyles.
  3. Skills in conducting safety assessments and safety planning.
  4. Knowledge, skills, and experience with group process and facilitation techniques, particularly with individuals who have experienced trauma and sexual abuse.
  5. Knowledge of applications used for creation/design of public awareness and other promotional material.
  6. Well-developed interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  7. Good organization, time management, and marketing skills.
  8. Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  9. Ability to work collaboratively and network with other members of the community.

Other Information:

  1. Must be willing to work flexible hours to meet the needs and demands of the program.
  2. Must hold a valid First Aid Certificate.
  3. Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.  

Position Details:

This position is part-time, scheduled for 21 hours per week over three days. It begins on November 17, 2025, and ends on March 19, 2026. After this period, the role transitions to a Responder position with 7 permanent hours per week. The position requires Union membership with BCGEU. The wage is consistent with Wage Grid 14 [$33.77 to $38.77] of the Collective Agreement. This position is open to female applicants only given the nature of the programming.  Specific job orientation will be provided.
