Stopping the Violence Women’s Counsellor

PERMANENT VACANCY (JOB SHARE)

We are seeking a qualified counsellor in the Stopping the Violence Program.  The counsellor will work collaboratively with the current job share partner in the provision of services. The focus is on providing counselling and related support services to women who have experienced various forms of trauma, violence and abuse. Program services are delivered within a feminist framework and a trauma-informed perspective, and place priority on women’s safety. QUALIFICATIONS:
· A Bachelor’s degree in counselling, social work or a related field, or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
· Minimum of two (2) years’ recent experience in counselling women who have experienced recent or historical trauma, violence, and abuse.

SKILLS REQUIRED:
· Proven knowledge, skills and experience in counselling women who have experienced various forms of recent or historical trauma, violence and abuse.
· Experience in providing counselling and advocacy within a feminist practice framework and trauma-informed perspective.
· Competence in working with women from diverse cultural backgrounds and lifestyles.
· Skills in conducting safety assessments and safety planning.
· Knowledge of group process and facilitation techniques, particularly with women who have experienced trauma and abuse.
· Well-developed interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
· Good organization and time management skills.
· Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
· Ability to work collaboratively and network with other members of the community.

This position is (17.5 hrs/wk) and will commence on or about June 1, 2024. Wage is consistent with Wage Grid 14-P STV Women’s Counsellor [$38.68 – $48.88 per hour] as set out in the BCGEU Collective Agreement.
