JOB Posting – Supported Rental Supplement Worker

Nelson Community Services (NCS) is seeking a qualified and suitable candidate to fill a permanent full time position of Supported Rental Supplement Worker. The worker provides support, education, and practical assistance to adults who are homeless or at-risk of homelessness with the aim of preventing the cycle of homelessness. Qualifications:

  • Diploma in the human services or a related field or the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Demonstrated cultural competence and experience working with diverse populations specifically four priority populations who are Absolute, Hidden, or At-Risk of homelessness in Nelson.
  • Demonstrated ability in financial management and budgeting.
  • Comprehensive understanding of housing regulations and tenancy laws.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours to meet program demands.
  • Must hold a valid First Aid Certificate.
  • Must hold a valid BC Class V Driver’s license and have access to a safe, reliable, well-maintained, clean vehicle with appropriate insurance.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Program Management:

  • Oversee daily operation of the rent supplement program, ensuring that procedures align with provincial guideline and best practices.
  • Complete VAT Assessment as needed, housing registry applications and input data on various platforms.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Establish and nurture relationships with landlords, property mangers, and housing associations promoting the mutual benefits of the rent supplement program.

Financial Administration:

  • Distribute rent subsidies on time, ensuring the rightful allocation and maintaining transparency in the financial practices.
  • Monitor and mange the budget, providing regular reports to senior management and identifying potential areas for cost-savings.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain meticulous records of all beneficiaries, transactions, ensuring data integrity and confidentiality.

Team Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with housing team, social workers, Interior Health and other professionals to ensure beneficiaries receive holistic support.

This full time permanent position (35 hrs/week) begins as soon as possible. Union membership with BCGEU is required. The wage is consistent with Collective Agreement job classification and wage grid 12 set at $28.32 to $32.51. This position is open to male and female applicants.
